Project Runway, S5 Finale Part I: Jerrel Wuz Robbed!
Well, here it is, people. The end of the season. If you tuned in last week you saw Jerrel get shit on by the judges after he won the challenge fair and square and then was told that he was going to have to RE-compete to show at Bryant Park. Why? Because despite her FUGTASTIC dress, and her BITCHTASTIC attitude, Kenley somehow managed to survive and didn’t get eliminated. Oh, no. All four of them went home to create collections and compete against each other again.
Heidi tells the designers that they are going to get 8000 smackers and three months to design 10 pieces including a wedding dress for the final challenge. She invites Tim out on the runway and he tells them he’ll be checking in on them during their sabbatical.
Kenley interviews that she was sabotaged by all the other designers. She walks out of the building with her suitcase, and doesn’t even acknowledge the other contestants. She is SUCH A FREAK. Seriously…there’s something wrong with her. Who is that assy?
With only a month left before the contestants return to NYC, Tim shows up at Korto’s workspace. She’s looking very laid back. (i.e. she needs to put on a bra). It’s actually a gorgeous building in the middle of the woods in Arkansas, and if I had to pick a workspace I think that might be it. Except not in Arkansas. She shows him her collection which has a gorgeous nature-inspired palette. Tim is a little nonplussed about the vaginal-shaped opening in the front of one of her dresses. He also thinks her wedding dress needs a train or something else to bridal it up.
Then Korto takes Tim home to visit her friends and family. Her husband and her daughter are supercute. Korto performs tribal drums with her drumming partner, who is also there for a visit. It is kind of badass. Now I want a drum. And a drumming partner.
Next, Tim is off in his Saturn to visit Leanne in Portland. Leanne gives Tim a big hug and introduces him to her boyfriend Nathan. He looks like the perfect counterpart to Leanne. She shows her collection to The Gunnster, and tells him her collection is inspired by ‘waves’. She’s used mostly white, ecru and a Tiffany & Co. robins’ egg blue. I LOVE everything about her collection. Leanne invites Tim on a ride with her nifty tandem bike. They cruise through the park and Tim looks hilarious with his bike helmet on. He’s such a good sport. The two of them sit in the park and talk about Leanne’s dreams of being a designer. It’s very sweet.
Jerrel greets Tim and shows him in to his L.A home where he has been actively growing facial hair. He tells Tim that he’s trying to play up his strengths by working with a lot of texture. His wedding dress doesn’t thrill Tim because it’s “too much”. In fact, Tim thinks he’s gone overboard with most of the collection and he tells him to start editing. Then Jerrel brings Tim over to meet his friends and family including his “love interest”. Jerrel’s mom looks awesome. She said she always knew he would do something creative. Jerrel tells us about growing up in south central L.A. and about his dad being gone most of the time because he worked as a truck driver. He starts crying. Awww…I just LOVE him. LOVE. Do you hear me? I LOVE YOU JERREL! You can design for me any day!
Finally, Tim heads over to Kenley’s pad in Brooklyn. She invites him in to her yellow living room. Kenley tells us her grandmother was part of fashion in the 40′s and that her grandmother died a couple months ago. She starts crying. Is this why Kenley has been such a bitch? Maybe! Or at least it explains why the judges have been so lenient with her despite her bad attitude. She’s pretty much bawling through Tim’s whole visit. He likes her collection and especially her feather encrusted wedding dress, which I will admit looks spectacular.
Back in New York everyone greets one another like old friends. Jerrel has shaved his goatee. He discovers he’s rooming with Kenley which makes Korto and Leanne snicker devilishly. Kenley comes in and everyone feels awkward. She tells everyone she’s sorry for being a bitch. Then a cart with a bunch of champagne arrives with a note from Tim and everyone pours a glass. They decide to bury the hatchet.
Next day everyone gathers in the BlueFly.com Studio and starts pulling their stuff out. Tim tells everyone that in addition to their wedding dress, they have yet ANOTHER challenge! To design a bridesmaid’s dress to go along with it! Everyone looks pissed, but they are off to Mood!
Contestants work industriously until Tim shows up to examine the process. Shockingly, Kenley is doing a bubble dress. Tim offers her some encouragement. He then tells Jerrel that his bridesmaid’s dress is looking sloppy. He tells Leanne that her reworked wedding dress is magnificent but that she should shorten her bridesmaid dress. Tim tells Korto that it looks like she’s made two wedding dresses and that her pieces are in competition with each other.
AND THEN! Oh TIM! He gives everyone a pep talk and starts CRYING! He has got to be the nicest person EVER on TV. Tim Gunn for President!
It’s the morning of the runway show and everyone looks like hell. It’s early and they look exhausted and stressed out. Back at Parson’s they go straight to their stations and get to work. Tim arrives to send the models in for fittings. Kenley interviews that Korto and Leanne copied her because their dresses are shorter. Um. No.
Hair and Makeup and…it’s time to go!
Leanne’s dress gets rave reviews. YAY! Nina says it’s “Modern but it’s dreamy!” and I agree totally. Jerrel’s dress gets criticized for the funky bodice. Heidi says she doesn’t know what to think about it. Kenley’s dress is likened to Alexander McQueen’s by Michael Kors, however, Heidi thinks it is “crazy good”. Heavy on the crazy, eh, Heidi? Korto’s wedding dress is pretty fug, and Heidi says she doesn’t like it. Plus it clashes with the bridesmaid’s dress.
So what are the results?
Leanne, Kenley and Korto are in.
Jerrell is out. He looks so disappointed. I am, too.

seriously, he was! i think the producers just kept kenley for the drama because there is no talent there just pure bitchiness and i guess in pop media it gets you somewhere! i’ve never missed an episode ever and contemplated not watching it any more, but i want to see leanne or korto win now!!
yes I agree some people do exploit the media but you know what it always bites them in the backside in the end
