Dr. Alkaitis: Skin Food

Urban Gardener

I have the most straightforward skin care routine on the face of the earth and I’m not always excited about trying new skin care lines.  Mainly because I have experimented so much in the past and have not seen many products that live up to their claims.  But I was totally intrigued by Dr. Alkaitis‘ line of products which were developed by this research scientist who has been studying the affects of various plant life on cancer cells. So when they offered to send me some samples I accepted and made up my mind to try the whole line.

The company’s slogan is:  If You Can’t Eat It, Don’t Put It On Your Skin. I’ll admit I first pictured mashed avocado and yogurt when I read it.  But the products arrived in innocuous looking containers and appeared to be regular skin care products.  I opened a couple of the containers up and was surprised that they didn’t smell like much of anything.  That was a good start, because I’m pretty sensitive to weird smelling stuff that I have to put on my face.  That night, I began my routine using the Organic Purifying Facial Cleanser, Organic Herbal Toner, and Organic Night Cream.  The products were light, refreshing, and absorbed beautifully into my skin.  When I woke up the next day I started in with the same products but used the Organic Day Cream to moisturize.  I used the entire line (including some of the masks, the eye cream, and the nourishing oil) for about a week and a half and my skin responded.  It looked healthy and smooth, with an amazing glow.

The reason, of course, is that Dr. Alkaitis products are biologically active.  They use 100% organic aloe veral gel as the base of their products; make everything by hand in-house; and ship within two weeks of being made.  There’s no animal testing, and each product has a one year shelf life.

After trying the entire line, my favorite products are:

Organic Purifying Facial Cleanser

Organic Purifying Facial Cleanser cleans the skin gently, deeply and thoroughly. It removes old skin cells and leaves the skin moist, soft and refreshed. Dr. Alkaitis cures the soap base for a minimum of 6 months.

Organic Flower Mask

Organic Flower Mask is an activating and energizing mask that will bring a sallow, lifeless complexion to life. It leaves the skin glowing while improving the overall skin tone. This is an active mask and is not recommended for those with acne and sensitive skin. Excellent for oily and normal skin conditions and may be used as an exfoliating scrub as well.

The Organic Beauty Expert

Andrea Kane is not your typical “greenie”.  She considers herself an objective party in a world of green washed marketing and corporate propaganda.  With her no-nonsense attitude, she calls it like she sees it–and gives her readers an honest review of the thousands of ‘organic’ beauty products on the market today.

What makes The Organic Beauty Expert so valuable is not just the fantastic beauty finds, and the frank reviews that can keep you from wasting money on products that are not up to snuff (although these are both excellent reasons to be a loyal reader).  What makes her blog a resource that no eco-fashionista should be without is her enormous cache of knowledge on both organics and cosmetics.

Currently, she blogs and works from home as a massage therapist, but she owned her own beauty company for three and a half years, and now works as a consultant for start-ups beauty companies.  She also does corporate training and workshops on health and wellness.

Unlike a lot of beauty blogs that are all fluff and gushing about the free products they have been sent by companies that are looking for some free advertising, Kane knows when something is the real deal–and she’s going to tell you whether or not it lives up to its claims.

Along with her blog, she’s got a weekly podcast called Organic Beauty Radio that can be accessed through iTunes.  If that weren’t enough, she’s recently launched YouTube video reviews.

Don’t miss out on The Organic Beauty Expert’s daily offerings.  Thanks Andrea!
